RECYCLE BINS IN RAMSEY TWO MONDAYS A MONTH

Ramsey is being added to a new recycling venture. Village elders gave thumbs up for Central Illinois Recycling to bring collection bins on trailers to town two days a month.

The first visit will be Monday Dec. 13 on the Sixth Street lot just north of Village Hall.

Attending Monday’s council meeting were Todd Barna and Sherri Cedar, representing Central IL Recycling. Barna said the service is already being offered in Cowden and Herrick with good results. Plastic, paper, metal cans, cardboard, perhaps other things are accepted.

Mayor John Adermann and council members probably hoped the 911 compliancy issue would go away, but were assured that a certain number of officials must take the National Incident Management System tests that prepare them to handle local emergencies. Some tests are online, others are in classrooms.

A commercial contract with Osage Equities, Inc. was approved and signed. Commitment with an economic development firm was held over until closing of the property sale.

Trustees voted to give employees a bonus rather than having a Board Christmas party. Communication devices were decided for street man Raymond Eddy and water/sewer superintendent Reggie Eller. The council is looking into a new computer for village treasurer Carla Denton.

LIONS DONATE LANDING LIGHTS FOR EMERGENCIES

Lions Club president Jeff Casey last week presented a box of lights to Ramsey Vol. Fire Department to aid in rescue efforts.

Although small and easily transportable, the set of five lights can be seen from a distance of 1 1/4 miles. Firemen will carry the lights on an emergency truck, ready to lead a helicopter to any safe, rural landing site.

Five Lumastrobe LED warning lights are held by (from left): Brian Meachum, Ramsey Fire Department EMS coordinator, Lions Club president Jeff Casey and Fire Chief Ron Stevens. Below: firemen test the new lights in a lot north of the fire station.

COUNTY BOARD MEMBERS TAKE OATH

Five recently elected members of Fayette County Board take the oath of office led by Chief Judge Gene Schwarm. The ceremony took place at noon Wednesday, Dec. 1 in the big courtroom. On the far end is Dist. 1 Board Member Loy Staff, then Glen Daniels of Dist. 3, Wade Wilhour of Dist.7, Glenn Gurtner of Dist. 6 and Darrell Schaal of Dist. 5. County officers Clerk Terri Braun, Treasurer Rose Hoover, Sheriff Aaron Lay and Assessor Cindi Lotz were also on hand to take the oath of office upon being reelected to new terms in November.

CARING AND SHARING

This is the last week for Ramsey Area Caring & Sharing collections. The last names on the Giving Tree must be taken and gifts put under the tree early next week. Workers will fill care boxes Thursday and Friday to be given to needy on the 18th.

Cub Scouts will be picking up donated nonperishables in the community this Saturday.
